Touring a Tampa, FL A-Frame Home Remodel with A Contractor
Brad with Home Love Construction takes us on a tour of a newly remodeled A-frame house located in Newport Richie, Florida. The house is triangular shape and has block walls around it that the homeowner built before a previous contractor left the job unfinished. Brad’s team completed the interior remodeling, and the homeowner will repaint the beams himself to an industrial red color.
The team drywalled the interior, added low air returns, and installed electrical outlets to meet code requirements. They also installed a railing for safety in the outdoor area, which overlooks a private lake. To meet electrical and HVAC code requirements, the team added a dropped supply out of the AC, which is not commonly seen in Florida, as well as additional ductwork, and did not disturb the four trusses to make the whole thing look right. They also kept the fireplace and did a bit of refinishing by whitewashing the stone.
In the kitchen, the team had to work around a beam that was in the way of the cabinet layout. They created an open area for a workspace, dishwasher, and cooking workstation, and added white shaker cabinets, a backsplash, and a countertop that stopped at the beam. The bathroom is unique and features hand-painted art tiles incorporated into the tile layout. The team had to place the decorative tiles exactly where the homeowner wanted them and then place the other tiles around them, keeping the 12×24-inch tiles continuous and uninterrupted.
On the exterior of the home, the team had to fill in the rough edges around the windows with pressure-treated wood and then trim them out because the house has a wood frame. The previous contractor had installed non-impact-rated windows, so the team had to add hurricane protection for final inspection. They also painted the exterior of the house blue.
